Week 2
Body Size
A woman in her second week may feel as though she is gaining weight. It could happen at this stage but the extra weight would be more likely from the shifting hormone levels than from an actual baby bump.
Though a clear change in size is not yet apparent, week two begins a bit of an emotional roller coaster for a woman. As hormone levels begin to rise and fall, the mother's mood may change from day to day, sometimes even hour to hour. While this may be jarring to those around her, it is a natural occurrence that should be treated with the utmost sensitivity.
Baby Size
Even though a baby bump is not evident, that does not mean that many exciting things are not happening during week two of your pregnancy. Cell division is occurring during this week and the baby's gender may be determined based upon the type of chromosome carried in the sperm.
While all this may seem too technical, it is significant in forming the miracle of life. Before your body can undergo external changes, there are wonderful things taking place internally to get there. The woman's body is creating a comfortable environment for her baby by forming the amniotic sac and developing the placenta.
Compare Size
During week two of your pregnancy, the size of the body versus the size of the baby is comparable. Everything is growing at a slow pace, with the embryo measuring at less than a quarter inch comparing it to a coffee ground.
Ironically, this is probably how much extra weight, if that, you will probably see around your stomach and waist. During the first three months, you can expect to gain about 2-4 pounds.
