Week 16

Body Size

The top of your uterus is now between your pubic bone and your navel. You are probably beginning to relax more since morning sickness and fatigue is starting to subside. Now in this stage of your pregnancy, some women begin to experience little flutters within the abdomen also known as quickening. These feelings mimic the same feeling as gas bubbles or little flutters within your lower abdomen. Over the next few weeks, those flutters will become more noticeable and be felt more often.

With the weeks to come, your baby will start making their presence more known with the movements you will start to feel on a regular basis. You probably have noticed that none of your old wardrobe is no longer fitting correctly and maternity clothes or loose fit clothing is becoming the norm. Weight gain is another factor that many new mothers worry about. Typically, during the second trimester you gain about 12 pounds. In addition, it is recommended that you gain no more than 25 pounds until delivery.

Baby Size

Your baby will have a growth spurt in the next few weeks. This means that he/she will double their body weight and add inches. Little toenails are beginning to develop on the toes. In addition, the pattern of the scalp has started even though your baby has not starting growing hair yet. The baby's heart is now pumping about 25 quarts of blood a day and will continue to increase your baby grows.

Compare Size

Currently your baby is about 4 1/2 inches long and weighs 3 1/2 ounces. In size, your little bundle is comparable to an onion. Your baby's legs and arms are more developed and getting stronger by the day. Getting closer to the half way mark in your pregnancy!
