What to expect in your second trimester

Second Trimester

During your second trimester you can kiss your morning sickness goodbye! Not only can you keep your food down, but your energy will return. What else happens during your second trimester of pregnancy? According to the experts at iVillage.com, during your second trimester of pregnancy:
  • Your clothes will start feeling a tad bit tight.
  • Fetal organ development is mostly complete.
  • You should start to feel some activity (resulting in a fluttering sensation that starts between weeks 18 and 22).
  • Your doctor might recommend you take a Down Syndrome test, as well as a blood test called (MSAFP) which can also identify potential problems with the fetus.
  • Your uterus will extend beyond the belly button.
  • An ultrasound will clearly identify the gender.
  • Eyelashes and eyebrows have begun to grow.
  • Your baby's ears can actually hear things.
  • You might experience contractions, harmless, these are called Braxton Hicks.
  • Rapid eye movement will begin in your baby.
  • You might become more susceptible to dental problems.
Your pregnancy second trimester has been a wonderful journey. Between your baby's exercise and your busting belly-your pregnancy second trimester is further proof that you will be holding your baby in your arms soon enough!
