Risks of Using Fertility Drugs
Risks Of Using Fertility Drugs
As with all prescription medication, it is important to follow your health care provider’s instructions carefully. The risks of using drugs in the wrong way, even fertility drugs, can result in overdoses or lasting negative consequences to both the woman and the baby she’s hoping to conceive. Some fertility drugs, including methods of natural fertility help carry side effects. You should always discuss the possible side effects of any fertility drugs you are considering before experimenting with them.
Some of the most popular fertility drugs have milder side effects. Clomid’s side effects, for example, tend to be fairly mild. That said, about 1/3 of all Clomid users will develop hostile cervical mucus. Hostile mucus tends to kill sperm, making conception virtually impossible. Higher doses of fertility drugs such as Clomid often come with more severe side effects. Some fairly common mild side effects of Clomid include headaches, insomnia, weight gain, mood swings, fatigue, nausea and vomiting or breast tenderness. More serious side effects include depression, blurred vision, abdominal pain, and ovarian cysts.
In the past, experts thought there was a link between ovarian cancer and Clomid use. Today, though, this link has been disputed and most current studies have not been able to find a link between ovarian cancer and the use of fertility drugs.
Natural Fertility Help Risks
Natural fertility methods carry their own risks. Increasing the body’s levels of vitamins A, C and E, or the level of iron, zinc, or folic acid can aggravate pre-existing conditions. Be sure to check the labels for any warnings or consult with your health care professional before taking herbal supplements such as black cohosh, wild yam or chaste tree.
