How to Increase the Chances of Getting Pregnant

What Causes Morning Sickness?

Although the exact cause of morning sickness remains a mystery, there are some theories as to what triggers it. The high levels of hormones present during the first trimester, fluctuations in blood pressure, especially low blood pressure, altered metabolism, and high levels of hormones (especially progesterone) are thought to be among the causes of morning sickness. In most cases, though, morning sickness is simply a natural occurrence during the early stages of pregnancy. Previously, it was thought that the heaving and vomiting involved in morning sickness would harm the fetus. In fact, morning sickness does not harm either the woman or the unborn child. The fetus is protected inside a cushioned sac of amniotic fluid. What’s more, numerous studies have uncovered a link between moderate morning sickness and a reduced rate of miscarriage. However, severe morning sickness that includes weight loss and dehydration needs prompt medical attention. Prolonged vomiting can deprive the fetus of proper nutrition and increase the risk of having a low birth weight baby.

More Causes of Morning Sickness

Certain foods or activities may also make you more prone to bouts of morning sickness. For instance, if you like spicy or fatty foods, do your best to avoid them during your first trimester, as they may trigger or aggravate your morning sickness. Also avoid eating anything suspect and trying new foods. Eat small meals and remember that you are more likely to feel nauseous on an empty stomach, so always keep nibbling.
