Getting Pregnant
Getting Pregnant
Getting pregnant is sometimes not as easy as most people think. Certain factors such as caffeine, hostile cervical mucus, vaginal sprays, tampons, douches, and lubricants can actually prevent you from getting pregnant. Low sperm count in your partner can also be a factor, so try having sex in the morning when sperm count is higher and having him wear boxers instead of briefs every day. It’s also difficult to get pregnant if you’re over or under weight. Studies suggest that if your BMI (body mass index) is over 30 or under 20, you may have a harder time getting pregnant.
Tips for Getting Pregnant
Some of the best tips for getting pregnant simply involve a little common sense. First of all, control your weight and don’t smoke. Smoking in men lowers sperm count and in women causes all kinds of health problems including higher rate of miscarriage. Reduce your caffeine intake. Caffeine has been shown to reduce the body’s ability to absorb iron and to increase the risk of stillbirth. Of course a cup a day is fine, but switch to decaf if you’re simply addicted to coffee, tea or soda. Taking folic acid supplements can help reduce the risk of serious birth defects affecting both the brain and spinal cord of the fetus.
Other tips for getting pregnant involve the deed itself. The best positions for pregnancy sex are the missionary position in which the man is on top or doggie-style and lying down next to one and other. Definitely avoid standing, leaning and woman-on-top positions, since the goal is to move the sperm up and into the uterus. For additional effectiveness, a woman may want to elevate her hips with a pillow during or for the fifteen minutes immediately after sex to allow the sperm the best chance of travelling up the uterus and reaching their destination. Remember that getting pregnant involves having sex on the right days when fertility is high, reducing stress, creating a sperm-friendly environment in your vagina, and a diet that includes the proper vitamins and minerals.
