Genetic counseling
What is Genetic Testing? If you're pregnant, you're probably fully aware of the on-slot of prenatal tests available to you. But are you familiar with genetic testing? A genetic test can identify the likelihood of passing on certain genetic diseases or disorders caused by defective genes to your kids. You might want to consider getting a genetic test to look for the following:
- Down syndrome
- Cystic fibrosis
- Sickle cell anemia
- Tay-Sachs
If the health history in your family is suspect, you might want to consider genetic counseling. Genetic counseling can help you:
- Evaluate family history and medical records
- Order a genetic test
- Help you evaluate the results
- Help you make informed decisions about your pregnancy
