Day Care Choices

Choosing the right day care facility for your baby can be a nerve-wracking and sometimes overwhelming chore. The best way to weed out the good day care facilities from the baby daycare mills is to do your homework first. When choosing a day care, look to see if each day care you are considering meets your standards. A good day care center should have a mixture of activities that teach different skills. Creative activities that feed the imagination such as storytelling, singing and dancing are definitely what you’re looking for. Through such creative activities, your child will not only learn important coordination and motor skills, but will socialize with other toddlers instead of engaging only in solitary play. You want activities that will help your child learn, increase his or her level of exposure to other children and to new situations which will encourage the development of problem-solving skills.

Baby Daycare Disadvantages

All baby daycare facilities will have some imperfections. You’ll have to choose between the ones that are most important to you and the ones you can ignore. One disadvantage is the lack of one-on-one attention in a baby daycare. If the child were at home with a parent or baby sitter, the child would be receiving the adult’s undivided attention. That undivided attention, however, comes at the cost of socialization with other children. Children in baby daycare centers are also more likely to be exposed to other childrens’ germs and therefore will be more likely to get sick. Other disadvantages include fees that you may have to pay if you are late picking up your child or the fact that the center is closed on some holidays. Just remember to take your time and examine all the pros and cons before you decide which day care is right for your little one.
