Cord Blood Banking
Cord Blood Banking: Is it a Good Idea? If you're currently pregnant, chances are you've heard of cord blood banking. Cord blood storage is when the umbilical cord blood is saved after the baby is born and cryogenically stored. Why participate in cord blood storage? Most parents choose to store cord blood in case their child becomes sick and needs a bone marrow transplant. So how do you make a decision about cord blood banking?
First: Check the price tag associated with storage facilities. That alone might make your decision for you.
Second: Do you have a history of illness in your family where having your child's cord blood could come in handy? If so, then you should seriously consider it.
Ultimately, the decision to store your child's cord blood is up to you and your partner. If you can afford it to do it, it certainly can't hurt!
