Sibling Adjustment Advice Does your son or daughter have a new sibling on the way? Introducing a new sibling to the family mix can be a tricky duck. So how can you make sibling adjustment a little easier? Below are some recommendations on how to help siblings and the new baby coincide better right from the get-go.
Ways to Make Sibling Adjustment a Little Easier
- Talk to your child about it. Your child needs to hear it from you.
- Get your child involved. Take them on a few prenatal visits or consider taking a sibling and the new baby preparation class.
- Paint them a realistic, honest picture of what life is going to be like after the new baby arrives.
- If you have friends who just had a new baby, pop by for a visit.
- Educate your child on childbirth via videos, books, the Internet, etc.
- Get your child involved in the preparations as much as possible.
