Baby Mobiles
If at your shower you receive three different infant T-shirts with crass slogans like, "I dig chix," you're entitled to return them all. But if you get three different baby mobiles, it's wise to keep them all. There's no telling at what stage your infant will become completely captivated with his mobile or what aspect of the gizmo will turn him on. Baby mobiles are the circus-like contraptions that, with their support structures fastened to the crib rails, suspend shapes and animals over baby's crib and entertain infants for hopefully long stretches by rotating and playing music. Infants may delight in mobiles with varying levels of complexity at different stages of their development. Start with the simplest one and if you feel your baby burning out on it and you've got a second one, let him graduate. The more a baby mobile weighs, the more frequently it needs to be tightened - they can come loose and fall off the crib rails into the crib. Get the longest playing, longest turning baby mobile you can find - 15 minutes is great, 30 minutes is better. Remote control devices allow you to change the music (Bach to Mozart) or reset the mobile without going into baby's room and breaking the spell by your presence. But know the range and performance of the remotes are spotty.
