Baby and Infant Blankets
The best baby blanket is the one that gets used. It should be soft yet durable. Also flame retardant, hypo-allergenic and, if possible, stain resistant. It should hold up against countless washings. Of course, there will be pink and blue baby blankets, depending on the verdict of the sonogram, but if siblings are in the family plan, buy some in yellows and greens. Infant blankets, or receiving blankets, should be extra-soft, very light and warm yet breathable.
The satin-trimmed Louis XIV-looking number will draw "oohs" and "aahs" at baby showers but who will have the guts to toss it onto the floor with the blocks and Elmo and the occasional strand of dog hair? If you are buying for sentiment rather than function, so be it, as long as you know the difference.
